High Fiber Diets: Revolutionize Your Eating Habits

Of all the faddy diets that are out there, the ones that you will rarely hear mentioned are the high fiber diets around. High fiber diets are established diets that encourage the individual to lose weight as well as maintaining a healthy body. However, high fiber diets are not so much diets, but more lifestyle choices that involve simple healthy eating.

High fiber diets are important because they enable the digestive system to work properly, especially the intestines and the colon. It ensures that all waste products are cleared out effectively because high fiber diets expressly create the contractions that push the waste down through the body and out when you go to the bathroom. It also enables the waste products to absorb water for ease of passage and expands the colon so that it does not remain there for too long.

High Fiber Diets And The Health Benefits

High fiber diets can help anyone’s digestive system and restore it to full working order, but it has special benefits for those suffering from digestive system related illness. Although high fiber diets cannot cure these ailments, it can relieve them somewhat. A prime example is IBS, or Irritable Bowel Syndrome to give it its full title. IBS can cause serious discomfort for any sufferer as well as constipation, diarrhea and particularly potent smelling wind. High fiber diets can contribute towards the regulation of bowel movements, thus avoiding further discomfort.

High fiber diets also help to offset the effects of more extensive digestive problems, such as diverticulosis and colon cancer. The former can be extremely painful, as anyone suffering with the disorder will already know. The colon is contracted for an extended period of time, which then causes pockets to be created within the intestine. The pockets remain there for a while and soon become populated with food. This obviously causes major pain and infection. Infections can be cleared up with antibiotics but may also need surgery further down the line. Diverticulosis cannot be cured with high fiber diets but they can help to increase the bulk of the waste, which then makes contraction easier when required but prevents irregular contractions from occurring. This will then, in turn, reduce or prevent the formation of pockets, which causes pain.

Colon cancer is becoming more and more common these days, but high fiber diets can decrease the chances of an individual getting cancer in the first place. High fiber diets help to keep the path of waste moving at a constant speed through the body. This also means that any carcinogens in foods are kept moving too and cannot settle in the colon. As a result, high fiber diets may just prevent cancer in individuals full stop.

All of the digestive problems above are worst-case scenarios. However, high fiber diets can be of great benefit to the majority of individuals. There is no point allowing your body to degrade to the point that a severe illness does occur and then putting measures in place. Prevention is better than cure.

Not really helpful at all. Went into great detail about how a high fiber diet can help you be healthier, but no mention of how many fiber grams a day, and which foods are best. Also, no mention if insoluble vs. soluble fiber.
Terrible article!
